All Stars Recap

The Foster City All Stars Majors team played on Saturday against Menlo/Woodside's Alpine and after two extra innings, we were able to win with a score of 6-4.  It's Nathan's first time playing for an all star team and it was a beautiful morning (the game was at 9am).  They called each player's name and afterwards, played the National Anthem...to which of course, after it finished you hear a 'PLAY BALL!'  It was awesome to see our hometown cheering for Nathan and all the players as each player at bat was introduced.  He made two outs (robbed the players of a possible double or triple) and got a game ball!

Honoring America...

On Sunday, the day was gloomy--perhaps a foretelling of the outcome for us.  Foster City would face the well rested San Carlos team.  After using all our pitchers, we were forced to use those that did not have the capability.  And even though dad had informed the coach the day before that Nathan had been working on his pitching--the coach did not use him.  (Poor Nathan, he's the underdog that everyone roots for, well loved, but at the same time, adults just don't see his potential).  Not using Nathan as pitcher proved to be detrimental, as the scored went from 4-0 to 9-0, with San Carlos leading all the way until the final inning.  Our team managed to finally get some hits in (San Carlos had to pull out the first pitcher) and we were finally able to get some runs.  How did the game end?  One of the players (not Nathan) at third (who probably was excited to have hit a double, according to his grandparents sitting by us) thought it was 3 outs, and proceed to walk toward the dugout--the hubs yelled it's only 2 outs!  As everyone realized what was happening, the ball was thrown and the kid was tagged out.  He was out of the baseline anyways, so it would've been an automatic out.  Sigh.

And so ends the tournament for Foster City.  I'm so grateful that Nathan is improving, and starting to love the sport.  I loved watching him battle the at bats--it would be full counts after some strikes and foul tips (one almost hitting a car!), and he ended up walking, twice.   He's got a good eye, a great swing and the mental part of the game is starting to come together.  I've even realized that this game is more complex--at least in tournament form and not in little league form.  It's becoming where little league for Nathan is nothing.  We're looking forward to the next tournament the July 4th weekend.  He's got a steep learning curve but  he's grown leaps and bounds just from playing his first tourney Father's Day weekend.

Nathan at third, two outs,...batter was not able to bring da kid home.

Yay little guy!  Mom is your biggest (eh-em) cheerleader!  God is GOOD!!!

Conversations:
Dad: ....and he's Taiwanese, too, right?
Mom:  Yea, you're right--
Nathan:  I'm Nathanese!

LOL!!!!
